A performative installation signed by the artist Matilde Cassani and realised by Salone del Mobile.Milano on the occasion of the West Bund Art & Design in Shanghai.
Poliform is the star in Shanghai, once again. After the recent opening of the extraordinary single-brand store in the Laoximen district, the company is now talking about itself at an event designed by Salone del Mobile.Milano: “The Orbit’s Orbit: a performance installation dedicated to Italian design, designed by the artist Matilde Cassani.” From 8 to 10 November, this event marks the return of Salone del Mobile.Milano to the city, on the occasion of the West Bund Art & Design (which is among the most prestigious modern and contemporary art fairs in Asia), of which it is a partner for the first time.
Inside the prestigious The Orbit, the building whose architecture was designed by Heatherwick Studio and whose interior design was managed by Wutopia Lab, a cultural hub of the new financial district of Xuhui, the layout curated by Matilde Cassani transforms the space into an urban square in which over 50 iconic “Made in Italy” pieces are arranged between concentric spirals that culminate in the central stage, while all around performers and visitors are called to take part in this “festive city scene”.
Two Poliform icons have been chosen for this installation that combines design, art and culture. These are the Le Club and Standford armchairs, both designed by Jean-Marie Massaud. The former is elegant, sinuous, with a 1970s appeal; the latter is refined, simple, and enveloping. Two distinct but similar ways of interpreting the Poliform lifestyle.
